Happiness is Baking with My Family
As children grow older, finding ways to draw the family together seem to become increasingly difficult. One fun and easy thing my family does together is set up baking days. We purposely find recipes that require lots of labor in order to incorporate as many family members as possible. One of our new favorite treats to bake together are pretzels. The baking process for pretzels is rather involved, messy, and fun to make; it’s also something everyone enjoys eating afterwords. We have one person make the dough and divide it ahead of time. Then we bring everyone together to twist the dough into pretzels while two people stand over the stove to dip the pretzels into boiling water. Lastly, another person sprinkles toppings on them before they go into the oven.
Baking is a rewarding pastime that only becomes more enjoyable when experienced with loved ones. With a good attitude, family can even laugh at the occasional baking disasters. Just keep in mind the fact that every moment we have with the ones we love are valuable moments. Next time you are having a family get-together, buy a cookbook or go online and find some fun recipes to make together.
